Drinking Water FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I test my water for?

Each drinking water client has different needs depending on their type of water source.  There are many factors to consider when deciding what to test drinking water for.  Recommended testing depends upon what the water source is, if it is located close to any hazards such as gas stations or farms, what type of plumbing the source runs through, and if there are any nuisance problems with the water.

What type of container should I put my water sample in?

Many tests require special sampling containers.  Please contact us before sampling to determine what containers you need.

How do I collect a water sample?

Typically Delta recommends that clients collect their water from a frequently used faucet.  The most representative source is usually the kitchen sink.  Be sure to remove any filters or aerators before sampling.  Some tests such as bacteria require the tap to be sterilized prior to testing.  This can be done by spraying alcohol into the faucet or briefly burning faucet edges with a lighter.

What type of testing do I need for a real estate transaction?

Typically in the State of Oregon real estate transactions require testing for bacteria and nitrates.  Depending on the area other tests may be required.
